Parents play a very important role in catalyzing and contributing to the transformation of education. They provide learning opportunities at home and link what children learn at school to other aspects of their lives. Transformation of education is intricately linked to the levels of parental involvement in different educational settings.
However there is a need for education to move from academics to competencies and life skills based. Children are no longer changing jobs, they are changing careers. Self-directed learning has become very important in this process and self discipline is now key. It is very important that both educators and parents are open and accepting of change. One of the biggest challenges however, is to convince parents that they can contribute to the change.
Schools and educational systems are an important part of our society because this where the preparation for participation in society, in democratic processes in the labor market takes place and where the foundation for lifelong learning is laid that will enable children to cope with constant adaptation to new technologies, to be innovative and creative and find new solutions.
Towards the conceptualization of this vision, the 13th Edition of the Online Educational Leadership Forum "What Role do Parents Play in the transformation of Education?" was held.
