Jon Zurfluh is a Washington State native where he grew up and attended college at Pacific Lutheran University for both his undergraduate and graduate degree in Elementary Education and Educational Administration respectively. As a teacher for 11 years in University Place School District, he also was closely involved with the incorporation of the City of University Place, the Washington Education Association in various union leadership roles, and as a leader in youth ministry with both Mount Cross Lutheran Church and regional positions in Western Washington. 

Jon moved to China in 1994 as first a teacher and then elementary school principal in Guangzhou. He returned to the states in 1997 and served as an elementary school principal in rural White River School District, where he successfully implemented Gates Foundation Classrooms of the Future grants, the first of their kind.  Jon returned to China in 2002 and served as the opening principal at the Pudong Campus of Shanghai Community International Schools. Under the SCIS banner, Jon moved to the Hongqiao Campus as Deputy Headmaster for SCIS and then returned in 2008 as the Head of School for SCIS Pudong campuses, which now included 700+ students on two sites. 

Jon continued his community involvement as founding member of the Pack 969 Cub Scout group and through work on various projects with Community Center Shanghai and other charitable organizations like Rock Island Aid.  In 2007, while still an administrator at SCIS, Jon participated in founding the first Learning 2.0 conference along with Michael Weber and the multi-school team at Concordia International School.

Jon returned to Washington State in 2009 to complete his certification as a Washington State Superintendent through the Executive Leadership Program at Seattle University.  In 2011, he took over as Director at the Anglo-American School of Moscow where he served for 5 years and implemented broad based strategic plan efforts.  He left Moscow to join a new school in Eastern Europe when called to serve the American School of Warsaw, where he is now presiding over a school of 1000 students representing more than 50 countries.

Throughout his career, Jon has been a strong advocate for seamless integration of technology in education.  He setup the first Apple II labs in Washington State in the 1980’s and has implemented leading edge technology initiatives in each school he has served over almost 40 years.  A long time Apple, Inc. advocate, Jon is an avid user of technology, a part time coder, and a trainer in the use of technology at both the teacher and leadership level.
